Are EA trying to emulate Evony?

I saw this ad on GAMESbrief today:

It’s a rotating ad, and when I watched it rotate through its (too long) sequence, I discovered it was for Lord of Ultima, EA’s free to play version of my favourite game of all time. (Ultima IV, in case you wondered).

The problem is that I expected it to be an ad for Evony, a game that has come in for some criticism from, among others, the Guardian.

An Evony ad, yesterday

So are EA’s graphic designers really trying to make Lord of Ultima feel like Evony. That would be bizarre decision if they are.

Or is it just me seeing the similarity. Have I been so over-exposed to Evony that I see it wherever I look.

What do you think?

No, they are. But then again, they're very, very similar games – the Ultima tag is depressing and irrelevant, especially as it's being made by the lead design of Settlers.

So you think they really are trying to look like Evony. Crikey

Yep, that's pretty ugly stuff too.
