I love this Amazon recommendation

While I was at GDC, Amazon sent me this recommendation. Apart from the foolishness of trying to sell me my own book, I loved receiving this email. Can you see why?

About Nicholas Lovell

Nicholas is the founder of Gamesbrief, a blog dedicated to the business of games. It aims to be informative, authoritative and above all helpful to developers grappling with business strategy. He is the author of a growing list of books about making money in the games industry and other digital media, including How to Publish a Game and Design Rules for Free-to-Play Games, and Penguin-published title The Curve:
  • Turns out that other people are not only less vain than me, but smarter too.

  • Alexander Symington

I thought this was going to be a Curve-related point about Amazon recommending some products that cost 25+ times as much as others to the same demographic. Way off…

  • It turns out that other people aren’t as vain as me. I liked getting this because it put the Design Rules for F2P games in the same bucket as Jesse Schell’s Art of Game Design and Raph Koster’s Theory of Fun, two books I respect enormously.

  • There’s no ‘Add to cart’ buttons?

  • Is this like eye spy?
