    January 25, 2012

Current iOS darling Temple Run started life as a paid app. It cost 99c and contained in-app-purchases.

According to an interview with Gamasutra, the app reached the top 50 in the paid app charts in August 2011, and developer Imangi turned it free in September, with impressive results.

    January 19, 2012

At a client last week, I was asked what virtual goods are most popular with customers. I remembered that wooga CEO Jens Begemann had given the answer for one of their most popular games and via Twitter, Nicola Hibbert was kind enough to steer me to the GamesIndustry.biz report of Jen’s talk.

  7. Go Free to make money on iOS–57% of the Top Grossing Games on the US Appstore are Free

    December 20, 2011

My analysis of the top grossing apps of 2011 yesterday covered the UK market. Today, I’ll look at the US App Store Top Grossing apps, based on the 2011 Rewind feature.

Games dominate the appstore in the US, with a full 80% of the top grossing apps. Only one non-game app appears in the top 20 (a navigation app called MotionX GPS Drive).
